Antique H Pooley Liverpool 2 LB Brass Bell Scale Weight Victorian Edwardian

Antique H. Pooley 2 LB solid brass bell/capstan scale weight, dating to the late Victorian or Edwardian period, approximately c. 1890–1910.  Made by H. Pooley, the historic British weighing-machine and scale manufacturer associated with Liverpool. The maker's marking is worn but visible on the upper portion of the weight.  This substantial commercial scale weight is constructed of solid brass and retains its recessed lead adjustment plug in the base. The lead and surrounding areas show numerous old impressed verification/inspection marks from its working life, giving the piece excellent antique character.  Marked 2 LB on the top of the carrying handle.  Measurements:  Height: approximately 4.5  Diameter: approximately 2.25  Weight: approximately 2 lb  A handsome and increasingly collectible piece of antique British weights-and-measures history. Excellent for a collection of antique scales and weights, British industrial antiques, kitchenalia, or as a decorative brass paperweight/display piece.  Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate scratches, marks, small dings, casting irregularities and surface wear. Brass has a bright polished appearance with areas of remaining patina/discoloration. Lead adjustment plug and historic verification marks remain present on the underside.
