Vintage Chinese Carved Wood Dish 福寿 Fu Shou Longevity Lotus 12"

Unusual vintage Chinese carved wooden decorative dish featuring 福寿 (Fú Shòu) imagery — traditionally associated with blessings, good fortune and longevity. The front is beautifully decorated with carved lotus leaves, lotus blossoms/seed pods and the large auspicious 福寿 characters. The combination of 福 and 寿 is traditionally associated with wishes for happiness, good fortune and long life, and is especially appropriate in the context of longevity and milestone birthday celebrations. Possible celebratory/longevity piece: I acquired this from an older gentleman who told me he had obtained it in the 1940s and believed it dated to approximately 1910 or earlier. I cannot independently verify the date of manufacture or the original occasion for which it was made, so this history is being provided as provenance rather than as a guaranteed date. The underside also has several handwritten Chinese characters/inscriptions, which are shown in detail in the photographs. I have not been able to definitively identify or translate all of these markings. Approximately 12 in diameter. A fascinating decorative piece for collectors of Chinese decorative arts, Asian carved wood, auspicious symbolism or unusual vintage objects. Please note: The exact date, maker, origin and original purpose have not been independently authenticated. The approximately 1910 date is based on the previous owner's recollection of the piece's history.
