[What is Wajima-nuri?]

A representative traditional Japanese lacquerware craft, primarily passed down in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Among lacquer cultures with over a thousand years of history, it is particularly characterized by its exquisite and highly durable techniques.

Craftsmen repeatedly apply carefully selected lacquer, drying and polishing between each layer, to create a deep luster and robust texture. Furthermore, by employing decorative techniques such as Maki-e (gold or silver powder sprinkled on lacquer) and Chin-kō (engraving and filling with lacquer), each piece gains artistic value.

The charm of Wajima-nuri lies not only in its beauty but also in its ability to maintain its brilliance even with daily use. You can feel the breath of the artisan the moment you hold it.
Truly, a masterpiece of Japanese traditional crafts that gains more character with use.
Traditional Wajima-nuri crafts are designated as Important Intangible Cultural Properties.
This is a top-quality lacquerware that can be used for generations.
