VINTAGE POLARIS 17-JEWEL MECHANICAL WATCH — SWISS EFFEM / MEYER MOVEMENT Here's one for the collector who would rather uncover an obscure vintage mechanical watch than buy another example everybody already knows. This vintage Polaris wristwatch combines a wonderfully period silver/cream dial with gold-tone applied markers and hands and a genuine 17-jewel Swiss manual-wind movement. And unlike many vintage watches offered online, we opened it. The movement is shown clearly in the photographs and is signed: EFFEM WATCH MEYER SEVENTEEN / 17 JEWELS SWISS UNADJUSTED The dial is marked: POLARIS 17 JEWELS INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC UNBREAKABLE MAINSPRING That combination gives this watch exactly the sort of old-school mechanical character collectors look for—the watch comes from an era when shock protection, jeweled movements and antimagnetic construction were features manufacturers proudly advertised directly on the dial. THE DIALThe silver/cream dial has attractive gold-tone Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9, elongated applied hour markers and matching gold-tone hands. There is visible age-related patina, discoloration and spotting. We have not attempted to clean or restore the dial. That's intentional.
