This is a beautiful Maru Obi with a full, reversible design featuring woven motifs of auspicious birds, flaming drums, folding fans, and chrysanthemums.

A Maru Obi is a luxurious, wide fabric (approx. 70cm wide) with an elaborate pattern woven throughout. It is made by folding this fabric in half, inserting a lining, and sewing one side shut. This creates a very substantial obi, historically used for formal attire such as bridal kimonos and Tomesode.
