We sell handmade shinobue flutes made by a father and daughter who have been teaching and crafting shinobue for about 25 years in Shimane Prefecture. We make shinobue and kagurabue flutes from female bamboo (shinonome bamboo) harvested from the Shizuma River (formerly Ginzan River), dried for over 3 years.

◇Description◇
For the Ippon-choshi (key of C) tuning, if your fingers cannot reach, use your right pinky finger to cover the second hole. The resonant low notes and the breathy high notes create an indescribable tone, making it a flute that any shinobue player would want to try.
Ippon-choshi tuning is rarely available and difficult to obtain.

[Specifications]
○ Shinobue (Japanese transverse flute) Ippon-choshi (C tuning) 7 holes
○ Length: Approx. 59.5 cm, Diameter: Approx. 22.5 mm (near the embouchure)
○ Material: Shinonome bamboo (dried for over 3 years and heat-treated)
○ Holes: Inner surface coated with synthetic red lacquer (kashu)
○ Outer surface: Coated with transparent synthetic lacquer (kashu)
○ Wrapping thread: Brown lace thread

Approximately 20g of lead is inserted into the head of the flute to stabilize it when playing.
The reflector at the embouchure is made with putty to prevent it from melting even in the summer heat. The wrapping thread is coated with transparent lacquer, making it beautiful and durable.
The flute is tuned to produce low notes (1st octave), middle notes (2nd octave), and high notes (3rd octave) by adjusting the breath strength.
The tuning is matched to the Western scale at 440Hz for the middle notes (2nd octave) using a tuner, allowing for ensemble playing and performance with other instruments.
