Thank you for looking.
We are pursuing the creation of musical instruments that can play automatically without any musical skill. We have meticulously crafted this by carefully selecting the notes, materials, and calculating the lengths using spreadsheets for precise cutting and suspension points. The exceptionally long sustain and well-balanced overtones create a rich and pleasant resonance.
Due to its handmade nature, we use generous amounts of thick pipes, similar to models costing tens of thousands of yen from the original Woodstock company. The tone is quite close to theirs.
Wind Chime Trivia
Terminology
Support: The round disc from which the chimes hang.
Striker: The weight that strikes the chimes.
Sail: The piece that catches the wind.
Commonly Used Pipe Materials: Iron, Stainless Steel, Aluminum
Luxury Materials: Copper, Bronze, Brass
The longer the pipe, the lower the pitch. However, the audible sound consists of the 2nd and 3rd overtones. Therefore, the usable range is approximately two octaves around the middle of a piano. Even with the same note, longer chimes have more overtones and are more appealing.
Thicker pipes tend to produce higher pitches because they are less prone to bending. For the same reason, thicker pipes also produce higher pitches. However, thick and wide pipes have longer resonance and richer overtones.
The position where the hole is drilled for hanging is crucial. Lower-priced products typically hang from the very top, which hinders resonance and shortens the sustain.
The height, weight, hardness, size, and shape of the striker, as well as the length of the cord, and the size, weight, and shape of the sail, all affect the tone and sound production. Trial and error is essential for adjustment.
We use a large, plate-like support for both rain protection and aesthetics. Wooden supports are not very resistant to rain.
