Description
From a flea market held on an academic street in front of the Pantheon, near the University of Paris.
This was the first stall I visited, and I found these sugar tongs. ????

The animal-leg design on the tips reminded me of the paws of my dogs back home in Japan. I muttered to myself (in Japanese), These aren't scary at all~, when a gentleman's voice spoke from behind me...

He showed me various types, and these are one of the two I chose. ??

From furniture legs to sugar tongs, the French culture of incorporating animal legs into everyday objects is truly endearing. ? This item embodies that perfectly. ????

Although slightly dented, there appears to be a maker's mark. ???

From the late 19th to the early 20th century in France, sugar was still a luxury item. ?? ???

These sugar tongs were likely favored by the upper class. ??

I wonder when they were used, what conversations were had, and what they were used to pick up sugar for? I believe they must have shared many happy moments. ????

The design is elaborate, from the tips to the handles. ?? ???

In the center of the handle, a cartouche (coat of arms frame) surrounded by flowers and rocaille motifs is featured, showcasing the skill of the craftsman of that era. ??

? Size: Each measures a maximum of 13.5cm in length and 2cm in width.

They seem sturdy enough to grip more than just sugar. ???

This is an item that has passed through time. ????

For those who appreciate vintage items. ?
