Inden is a traditional Japanese craft with a history dating back to the early Edo period. It is generally characterized by patterns applied with lacquer on light and durable deerskin. Lacquer was valued by ancient people as a protective charm. The traditional patterns that reflect nature and the seasons convey a unique Japanese aesthetic. It was used to decorate armor and helmets during the Sengoku period, and in the Meiji period, it evolved into forms such as Shingen-bukuro (a type of drawstring bag) and kinchaku bags, and with Western culture, it has been passed down to the present day as a traditional craft in forms like wallets and bags.
