The exterior is plain, but when the umbrella is opened, large roses bloom on the interior. The slightly blurred touch is a characteristic expression of Hogushi-ori.

Even the strong rose pattern creates a deeper, more mature impression. By using a basic color beige for the exterior and a tone-downed color for the interior, the design achieves a sophisticated atmosphere that is not overly flashy.

The fabric, which does not require edge finishing (fuchi-kake), is narrow-width (kohaba) and densely woven, making it durable and long-lasting.

The handle is made of maple (kaede).
Of the approximately 160 species of kaede that exist worldwide, those with leaves that Momiji in Japan are called momiji. This momiji, harvested from the northern Kanto to southern Tohoku regions, shares the same properties as maple: it has a pleasant texture and a dense, intricate grain. The material is hard and resilient, and has been used since ancient times for high-quality sporting equipment and musical instruments.

Hogushi-ori is a technique that involves removing warp threads one by one from a temporary weave to create the final weave. It is a very labor-intensive technique that requires the manual work of skilled artisans.
