【Specimen】Pseudoscorpion, Great-jawed Longhorn Beetle, Longhorn Beetle, Insect Specimen, Beetle, Scorpion

Scientific Name: Pseudoscorpiones sp.

Common Name: Pseudoscorpion

Taxonomically classified under the order Pseudoscorpiones. They resemble scorpions without tails and possess large pincers on their pedipalps. Most are microscopic animals, typically a few millimeters or less in size. The world's largest, the giant pseudoscorpion (Garypus titanius), measures 12-15 mm in body length. The Japanese pseudoscorpion (Chelifer cancroides) has males with elongated pedipalps, but their body length is only about 5 mm.

The body is cylindrical to oval, without a constriction in the middle. The overall external appearance is reminiscent of a tailless scorpion. They have four pairs of walking legs and a pair of pincer-like pedipalps, which are their most distinctive feature. The pedipalps, in larger specimens, can be as long as the body and have sensory hairs near the tips. They walk slowly, extending these pedipalps forward, and when they encounter something, they retract their pedipalps towards their body and retreat rapidly as if flying. Perhaps due to this striking appearance, they have alternative names such as atobisari (flying backward).

Some species can produce silk from their chelicerae near the mouth, which they use to build nests.
