[About Ibi River Stones]
Ibi River stones, as the name suggests, are suiseki produced from the Ibi River.
Ibi River stones are mentioned alongside Kamo River stones and Seta River stones, indicating a very long history, believed to date back to the Muromachi period, the era when suiseki originated.
After the construction of the Tokuyama Dam, regular water releases have controlled the water level, preventing the river from becoming turbulent and increasing the water volume. This has also led to the disappearance of the riverbed, making it impossible to find suiseki there today.
Therefore, it is unlikely that new, high-quality Ibi River stones will be found in the future, and the only way to obtain them is to acquire them from someone else.
