Final Price Drop!! Delicious! Sayama Tea Cuttings x 3 pcs. Tea, Grafting Branches
Please note that these are cuttings.
3 cuttings of pesticide-free Sayama tea, approximately 10cm in length.
Ships from Northern Saitama.
These are cuttings of tea plants.
Tea plants are relatively easy to propagate from cuttings, so why not give it a try?
Sayama tea is said to be one of Japan's three great teas, alongside Fujioka tea and Uji tea.
It is praised with the saying, Shizuoka for color, Uji for aroma, Sayama for taste, and its taste is said to be the best among the three great teas.
While it's usually impossible to obtain fresh tea leaves, if you grow them yourself, you can enjoy hand-rolled tea, and tempura made with fresh tea leaves is exquisite!
In my home, we've planted them as a hedge and use the tips of the leaves in spring.
■ Cultivation Method
Since tea plants are evergreen, they can be propagated from cuttings year-round.
However, we recommend managing them indoors during winter.
Thoroughly moisten Akadama soil or Kanuma soil (as fine as possible).
If there are too many leaves, moisture will evaporate quickly, damaging the cuttings. Adjust the leaves to half or one leaf per cutting.
New shoots emerge from between the leaves (nodes), so trim the tips of the branches.
Before planting, create a fresh cut on the cuttings and insert them at least 3cm deep, ensuring they don't dry out.
Using auxin-based plant hormones like Oxiberon or Rooton may increase the success rate.
After planting, gently water thoroughly to settle the soil around the cuttings and allow them to establish.
After planting, manage them in bright shade, avoiding direct sunlight, until roots form.
During this period, always water when the surface soil dries out to prevent drying.
Secondary growth typically occurs in about a month. When new shoots emerge, it's a strong indication that roots have formed.
Start applying liquid fertilizer from this stage.
When roots are visible from the bottom of the pot or container, transplant them into larger pots or plant them in the ground.
When transplanting, use acidic soil, not alkaline soil for vegetables.
Tea plants prefer slightly acidic soil.
Adjusting acidity with peat moss or sulfur is an easy method.
■ Harvest
Harvest young leaves around May.
■ Usage
Steam for green tea
Grind for matcha
Roast for hojicha
Ferment for black tea
Tempura is highly recommended.
