The sound of the Suikinkutsu bell is said to have a healing effect.
The Suikinkutsu bell is a bell created to imitate the sound of a suikinkutsu (a type of Japanese garden water feature). Its unique sharan sound is produced as a ball rolls through the many grooves inside the bell.
Its name originates from suikinkutsu.
A suikinkutsu is a type of Japanese garden feature. When water droplets fall into a pot within the garden, the resulting sound is said to resemble the tone of a koto (Japanese harp), hence the name Suikinkutsu bell.
Originally, bells have been associated with purification and warding off evil spirits, and have been used in Shinto rituals since ancient times.
By combining the sound of suikinkutsu water droplets with a bell, it is believed to not only purify and ward off evil spirits, but also bring good fortune.
