The Creation Myth: Residing in Awaji Island
Izanagi Shrine's Beautifully Designed
Goshuincho (Temple Stamp Book) with Goshuin (Temple Stamp) - 1 Book

An ancient shrine dedicated to the two married deities, Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto, the protagonists of the creation myth. It is considered the oldest shrine in Japan according to the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. It is said that Izanagi-no-Mikoto, who fulfilled the divine mission of creating the land and gods, established his secluded palace here and spent the rest of his life. Within the shrine grounds stands a pair of ancient camphor trees (prefectural natural monument), approximately 900 years old, believed to house the spirits of the two deities. Many couples visit to pray for marital harmony and safe childbirth.
