The 100th Kentucky Derby in 1974 was a historic race won by Cannonade, a bay colt. The winning jockey was the legendary Ángel Cordero Jr. It was a monumental win as it was the first Kentucky Derby victory for both Cordero and the horse's trainer, Woody Stephens. Cannonade famously navigated a massive field of 23 horses—the largest in Derby history at that time—to take the win by 2¼ lengths.
