Folding Fan
While clearing out an empty old house, I discovered what appears to be a high-quality fan, though I cannot determine its origin. I believe it would be best to pass it on to someone who desires it rather than let it go to waste.
I will refrain from making speculative comments using AI or similar tools, as an expert would likely be able to identify it immediately.
Family members have mentioned that it might be a treasure from my great-grandmother's time when she was a dance instructor, kept stored away in a chest.
The fan came in a paulownia wood box, but as it was not in a condition to be passed on, I have omitted it, and only the fan itself will be shipped. The fan itself is in perfect condition, appearing as if it were new. The paulownia box protected it. With new information, it seems to be a Kyoto fan, but I cannot personally verify this.
It is said to be a fan from the early Showa period, and apparently, it can be traded at a much higher price than my current listing price. However, I believe it is a bargain for someone who will use and appreciate it, so the listing price will not change.
The fan features hand-painted butterfly motifs.
Fans originated in Japan during the early Heian period, evolving from wooden slips used for writing.
Due to their spreading out shape, they have long been considered auspicious items symbolizing prosperity and good fortune.
The three major fan production areas in Japan are Kyoto, Aichi, and Tokyo.
As indicated by the circled area in photo 2, high-quality fans tend to have a larger number of ribs and a substantial weight.
There is no smoking or pets in my household.
The item will be shipped in a waterproof plastic bag, wrapped in cushioning material (bubble wrap), and sent in a box or envelope.
The fan has no scratches, stains, or tears.
Please zoom in on the photos and examine them carefully.
