[Product Description]
The setting of this film is China in the early 20th century. Ip Man, a master of Wing Chun from the south, is invited to a retirement match hosted by Gong Baosen, a grandmaster from the north, and becomes entangled in the major movement towards the unification of the martial arts world between north and south. Eventually, amidst the Japanese invasion and the chaos of the times, the martial artists are tossed about by their individual beliefs and destinies.

Furthermore, through his relationship with Gong's daughter, Gong Ruomei, who is also an accomplished martial artist, the human drama of unfulfilled love, pride, and loss is carefully depicted. This is not merely a fighting film, but a work that quietly questions the spirit of martial arts, the succession of styles, and the way individuals exist in changing times.

Director Wong Kar-wai's characteristic poetic and beautiful visual expression, along with the fight scenes that utilize slow motion, are highly impressive, possessing an artistry that sets it apart from conventional kung fu films.
