Description
Men's Genuine Dyed High-Quality Nagajuban Fabric, Pure Wool Mosslin Bolt, Gourd, Wave, Diamond, and Shibori Patterns, Men's Fabric Bolt

Material: Wool
Size: Approx. 75cm x 575cm

How about this rare men's nagajuban wool fabric? Multiple continuous holes have been found near the surface. Please check the photos for some of these. The folded areas may have slight yellowing due to age-related deterioration. We ask for your understanding that this is a long-term storage item.

However, due to its rare pattern and wide width, we are listing it in the hope that it can be used for remakes or other purposes.

My family's business was a long-established wholesale fabric dealer. This is a long-term inventory item. While there are signs of age-related deterioration throughout, we are offering it at a low price, and we hope it can be used somewhere. We also accept bundled orders, so please apply through the bundling function.

Below is a description of the fabric.

This is a bolt (or part of a bolt) of Yuzen Mosslin, a 100% wool plain weave fabric called Mosslin (or Merinsu), featuring patterns such as gourds, waves, diamonds, and shibori.

Material: Woven from 100% single-ply wool yarn, it is characterized by being light, warm, and conforming well to the body.

Technique: The traditional Japanese dyeing technique Yuzen dyeing is used. Since the Meiji era, the advent of vibrant colors from imported chemical dyes made it possible to popularize mosslin with such complex patterns.

Main Uses: It has been primarily used for men's nagajuban (underkimono), casual wear, and children's kimonos.

Historical Context: Mosslin was extremely popular from the Meiji to the Taisho and early Showa periods, even being described as a necessity of national life. Patterns like the one in this image were particularly popular motifs for men's juban.

Today, it is enjoyed not only as a kimono fabric but also as a material for remakes into interiors such as tapestries and placemats, or bags.
