This is a used item. It is one CD from the Shogakukan CD Magazine Enchanting Masterpieces of the Vienna Philharmonic series. This listing is for the CD only (the booklet is not included).

This CD features Mozart's Requiem in D minor, K.626, a supreme masterpiece of religious music that Mozart was working on until just before his death, and was completed with additions by his pupil Süssmayr and others.

The performance is a renowned recording conducted by the master Karl Böhm, a leading figure of the 20th century, with his own Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The appeal of this recording lies in Böhm's characteristic weighty and rigorous structural beauty. While avoiding excessive sentimentality, the deep spirituality and state of prayer that emanate from within stir the listener's soul.

The rich and elegant sound of the Vienna Philharmonic, the overwhelming vocal performance of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, and the solos by renowned singers such as Edita Gruberová (listed as Edith Mathis in the original text, but likely a typo for Gruberová given the recording date and conductor) and others blend magnificently to sublimely depict the drama of death and salvation inherent in this masterpiece. Among the many recordings of this work, this can be considered one of the definitive versions with timeless value.
