The story follows Vivian Morris, a 19-year-old who’s been expelled from college and is sent to live with her aunt, who runs a slightly shabby but glamorous theater in Manhattan. Immersed in the world of showgirls, actors, and backstage chaos, Vivian is swept into a life full of freedom, sensuality, creativity, and excess—very different from the rigid expectations placed on women at the time.
