This is a drain trap for Hitachi air conditioner outdoor units.
The following is an excerpt from the Hitachi website:
When operating in heating mode, it may appear as if water is leaking from the outdoor unit. This is because frost that has accumulated inside the outdoor unit melts and is drained.
This is not an abnormality of the outdoor unit.
When the outside temperature drops and the temperature of the heat exchanger inside the outdoor unit falls below 0°C, frost may form on the heat exchanger.
If a large amount of frost accumulates, the heating capacity will decrease, making it difficult to warm the room. Therefore, a defrosting operation is performed to melt the frost.
As a result, the frost melts into water and steam, and the melted water is drained from the drain hole at the bottom of the outdoor unit.
Please check the manufacturer's website etc. in advance to confirm if it can be installed on your outdoor unit.
