Description
Antique European 540 Silver on Copper Serving / Tea Tray • Diameter: 10.5 inches • Weight: 1.16 lb (526 grams) • Construction: Heavy copper base with thick 540g silver plating • Era: Circa 1890–1925 • Origin: Germany / Austria (Continental European) • Art Nouveau floral and scrollwork engraving with engine-turned background • Twisted rope gallery rim – a high-end European design detail • Crisp, deeply struck pattern indicating luxury-grade silver deposition • Stamped 540 Silber on Copper with European shield hallmarks This is not lightweight silverplate. The 540 standard means this tray was produced using a heavy silver weight applied over solid copper — a method reserved for high-quality continental silverware. The copper base allows for thicker silver plating and sharper engraving than modern nickel-based plate. Perfect for: • Tea or dessert service • Vanity or bar display • Coffee table or entryway styling • European silver or Art Nouveau collections Condition: Very good antique condition with natural patina. No monograms. No dents. Wear and surface scratches throughout; silver remains intact. See photos
