Wada-jii's Handmade Etchu Fundoshi (Traditional Japanese Underwear) - Longevity Series - Premium White Bleached Cotton - Set of 2

This is a set of two homemade Etchu fundoshi loincloths made with high-quality white bleached cotton Gekko from Sakai, Osaka. These are Wada-jii's special fundoshi with a slightly shorter maedare (front drape).

*   Tatemitsu (vertical panel): Length 96cm, Width 30cm, reinforced with a full-circumference fold
*   Yokomitsu (horizontal tie): Length 138cm, Width 2cm
*   Reinforced with chikara-ito (strength thread) at the intersection of the tatemitsu and yokomitsu
*   Size after washing:
    *   Tatemitsu: Length 94cm, Width 30cm
    *   Yokomitsu (tie): Length 136cm, Width 2cm
*   The maedare (front drape) is cut shorter to suit Western clothing.
    Long maedare is suitable for kimonos, but with Western clothing, it can get tangled in the crotch, and in the case of shorts, it may stick out. Nowadays, a shorter maedare is more practical, and the author finds it more stylish.
*   The yokomitsu (tie) is nearly 140cm long, allowing it to be worn by those with a larger build. The 34cm wide bleached cloth is divided into four equal parts and folded four times to make the tie, resulting in a sturdy tie. As shown in the photo, it will not loosen if tightened so that it passes through the upper edge of the hip bone, about 10cm below the navel.

【Reference】The Etchu fundoshi that Wada-jii has been using for over half a century was invented in the Edo period. It was the perfect underwear for the hot and humid climate of Japan, and was welcomed by Japanese men, surviving for hundreds of years without disappearing. The ones made of bleached cotton are still popular today, as they are breathable and absorbent, and are a clean and simple traditional health underwear.
